THE ACCIDENTAL ENTREPRENUER | THE TIFFANI CHANEL STORY
Most nights, when you’re getting ready for bed after a long day at work, Tiffani Chanel is gearing up for another night of speaking with her partners overseas and to her employees about new marketing ideas and products. Many nights are spent talking with customers over video chat about hair problems or their vision for a special event when their hair has to be perfect. Some people might think that working in a customer service capacity during the middle of the night is a grind, but that is when Tiffani feels most alive.
In 2009, long after finishing graduate school and more than a decade in Corporate America, Tiffani began to feel restless. She had just landed what she considered her dream job, had been labeled a “high potential” employee for several years, but she felt that something was missing.
A long time connoisseur of various types of hair extensions, Tiffani regularly engaged in countless conversations about which neighborhood beauty supply stores carried a decent brand of hair, which brands to avoid due to excessive shedding or texture change after washing and which stores gave their customers less-than-stellar service while shopping. That, and the mounting costs of continually having to replace expensive, poor quality hair made Tiffani begin to look for hair alternatives. Around the same time, while out of town on vacation, Tiffani ran into a former classmate. Her hair was gorgeous, but it was also very different from the way that Tiffani remembered. Her classmate was wearing an Indian Remy lace wig. Tiffani had to have one, and with the assistance her of classmate, she was able to order her very first wig, directly from India.
In the fall of 2009, Chris Rock’s documentary “Good Hair” made it’s debut on the silver screen. This movie piqued Tiffani’s interests and by Thanksgiving, she had launched her lace wig business. Using a DIY technique, Tiffani immersed herself in extensive research to learn all that she could about hair and the hair industry. She found herself looking forward to getting off work so that she could speak with customers that were experiencing hair loss, or who were simply looking for excellent quality hair for a reasonable price. Being able to help others look their best and feel good about themselves invigorated her and she quickly discovered what was missing, which was passion and purpose. This is also what led her to begin the Non-Profit organization “I’m Me Again”.
Today, the clients of Tiffani Chanel Luxury Hair are across the globe and from all walks of life. The corporation sells eyelashes, eyebrows, wigs, hair wefts, clip on hair, and various other hairpieces and takes pride in the excellent customer service and high quality products that every customer receives.
